Inis Mor one of the Aran Islands

What a day we had. It started at 11:30 and ended at 8:30. Not a lot of hours but we sure did fit a lot in! This Island reminds me of Block Island only less people living here and more open space:-)

The day started with an hour bus ride through the beautiful countryside to the ferry. The 45 min. ferry ride took us to Inis Mor. We found the bike rental shop at the end of the pier. We thought we had a lot of bikes to choose from but when we returned later that day we realized that they had already rented about 100 bikes prior to our arrival. We saw groups of bikers all over the island speaking many different languages.
Dave and Cristopher rode a tandem while I trailed behind on a regular mountain bike. Mountain bikes were important because when the occasional car came along you wanted a good set of wheels to get to the side of the road!

We stopped at a beach. I took off my shoes to compare the water to Maine. It was just as chilly! Made your feet numb after a few minutes.
We hiked to the top of a large hill to fort Dun Aonghasa. It was a very old fort wall and we had great views of the ocean and the cliffs. Cristopher coming out of part of the fort

The cliffs were spectacular and we had another sunny day even though the weather prediction was for rain. We have decided that the Irish weather forecast is pretend weather. They predict rain and sun on every day and they are always right but never at the right time and never about the right amount of each. They are calling for rain tomorrow. I'm ok if they end up being wrong.

And for those that know me well I can never resist taking a picture of a field full of cows. This is not my best effort but they were cute. For my horsey friends they do not use posts and wire over here they just build stone walls. There are dozens and dozens of intersecting stone walls. I'm a little unclear how they actually use them since a lot of them have no entry gates or maybe I'm just not very observant.

The cliffs were amazing and yes we are on to the new schedule. I know this because it is 9:00 here, 4:00 your time and I am really ready to go to bed. Of course it won't be dark for another hour and a half!
